The Pavilion – Architecture of Stewardship

2025

Client: Archinfo

Exhibition architecture for the Finnish Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale. The entire concept was designed in close collaboration with the curators. Since the goal was to showcase the pavilion itself, the number of built structures was kept to an absolute minimum. The space is divided by a five-meter curtain, intended to darken the area for the exhibition’s video content. The curtain also serves as a surface for printed exhibition texts.

In addition, a small wheeled desk was designed for the exhibition attendants, dimensioned specifically to fit into the opening of the so-called "commissioner’s booth." Finally, shelves were needed to support the video projectors. All ceiling-mounted structures had to be installed without making any physical attachments to the pavilion itself. All structures either rest on top of the roof trusses or embrace them without leaving a trace. The constructions were made from unpainted wood to make it legible which parts are original to the pavilion and which were added for this exhibition.
